Russia-China Jazz Project
Themed Concert Dedicated to the Works of David Tao (Tao Zhe)
About Us
The Russia-China Jazz Project was founded in Saint Petersburg at the initiative of Huang Qin. We unite Chinese and Russian students from the jazz department of the Saint Petersburg Institute of Culture for collaborative creativity, synthesizing traditional jazz instruments with electronic soundscapes. Our repertoire spans R&B, traditional jazz, Jazz HipHop, free jazz, and other genres.
In this special concert, we pay homage to David Tao (Tao Zhe) — a pioneer of Mandarin R&B. We reimagine his legendary works through a jazz lens: merging Tao's poignant melodies with improvisational depth, electronic textures, and intercultural dialogue.
Jazz, for us, is a collective philosophy: each musician represents a unique improvisational language, converging into contemporary audiovisual art. Developing organically within the framework of the Russian educational system, we champion live music culture and strive for an artistic ecosystem that values innovation. Through multimedia means and current sonic expressions, we erase boundaries—paying tribute to legends like Tao while forging our own path.
